Exciting to the dedicated fan, but not interesting to the non-fanatic. Useful a few ways.

Did you try and maintain an Excel spreadsheet or database of Aes Sedai to find the Black Ajah? Obsolete!

Are you someone who is overwhelmed by characters that came back after thousands of pages? Here you go!

My wife and I have read WoT together, aloud, twice. Our third read was triggered by this coming out; each time a new character comes along my wife stops me to check the entry to better put everything show more in context. show less
I'm one of the officially licensed Wheel of time artists. I have already used this book multiple times to help me in my artwork, to make sure I am getting details right.

I am unable at this time to write a review, but no one would listen to what I say since I'm married to one of the authors, and the other 2 are dear, dear friends. I also know the hard work and careful consideration that went into creating this reference book. For readers, it will be a little like that proverbial elephant show more being examined and described by six blind men-- a little different for everyone.

I, for one, am glad that it is available. My favorite bit it on old tongue, both the script, which I'm incorporating into art, and the definitions of words. Sure, there are things I would have liked to see, including a bit more artwork (not mine, but that of others), But, for the most part, consider me happy to have this as a reference for a series well done.

Good job, team Jordan.

The Companion includes a lot of details from Jordan's notes that didn't make it into the novels. Whether those details are interesting is a matter of perspective. There is more new information about some characters than others, and more of it is things like ages and heights rather than secrets or detailed back stories. And there is not as much new information as one might wish for.

The purely alphabetically order means this book is a great reference if you want to look something up, but it's show more less accessible if you want to sit down and just read about one particular topic. I suspect this book is most useful for fans who are involved in things like debating theories or creating fan art, and for casual readers wanting to be reminded of details they've forgotten.

The Companion is not perfect. It doesn't include everything I'd hope it would. But I'm very glad to have it all the same.
