Set in Shanghai and Honolulu in 1928 Chinese Puzzle is an interesting read on a historical basis. The interactions between the Chinese people themselves and the foreigners as described by the author, is difficult to understand by today’s standards.

The main character (Zepher Davies) a wealthy American foreigner is an amateur detective who is asked to help a young Eurasian woman prove her innocence. Characters abound throughout the book and I appreciated that the first pages of the book had show more a listing of the characters about to be encountered.

The author has included pages from his forthcoming book “Madness.” I look forward to reading more about Davies and No Sin (who appears in Chinese Puzzle). Overall, I did enjoy this book.
I won a signed copy of this book through Goodreads and I thank them.
