Short biography
Ian Lewis prefers not to be bound by a particular genre. Though the inspiration for his work varies, it often finds roots in something he dreamt. He strives for a gritty realism and maintains an interest in the humanity of his characters. His hope is that readers find themselves haunted by his stories in the sense that the narrative sticks with them long after they've finished reading, leaving them with a subtle restlessness for more. Mr. Lewis is the author of The Camaro Murders, Lady in Flames, Beacon Road Bedlam, Power in the Hands of One, and Godspeed, Carry My Bullet. He has been writing since 2002.

I read this book twice and wanted more--I wanted to keep reading to find out how Bon's pursuit of Sully and Katie ends, what happens to the laptop that Raider was entrusted with, what happens to Bobby, whether Maggie's son Nate will go into the MPs against his mother's wishes etc. This book is part of a series so some questions are answered in it and some are left dangling for the next.

I enjoyed all the characters: Maggie, a struggling mom who wants to raise her two boys right; Bobby, a man show more who watched his father die and who now has a chance to take revenge on the killer; Raider and his canine companion, Santos, who have carved out a nice for themselves as couriers; twins, Bon and Hoffer Horton, and others. I did have to occasionally remind myself that Raider and Bon were two different characters on two different assignments.

Disclaimer: I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Ian Lewis writes with the perfect level of personal detail for me - I am compulsively interested in each character and never bored with minutiae which are obsolete and irritating in other authors' stories. If you read this book and find similar enjoyment, be prepared for no ending as this is half a book and the characters are left hanging (in my heart and mind) pending the second half apparently called, "And I Will Lead the Revolt”.

A series of events are told from multiple POVs in this tale about a small town named Halgraeve. Several residents and a mysterious otherworldly figure called The Driver tell the tale leading up to the unexpected conclusion.

The town of Halgraeve is so depressing in this tale. The writing is so good that I felt like I was there and I just wanted to get the hell out. To run far and fast. To get away from what appeared show more to be a dead end place in a rundown tiny corner of the world. The different POVs were interesting, but the most interesting character is The Driver of the black Camaro. I didn’t quite understand the world in which he existed most of the time or what his role in the real world was exactly, but I still found him fascinating. It’s not quite my type of book, but it’s a good read all the same. show less
This was as excellent as the first in the series - well constructed, intriguing story; characters mattered to me and were well developed; good scenery and good pace. I received this as a LibraryThing Member GiveAway. Thank you.
