This gorgeous giant book, measuring in at 16" x 12", capture the beauty and uniqueness of Ireland through spectacular photographs. At times in this book, not only do you see a panoramic photograph spanning two 16" wide pages, some actually extend further through a folding flap to measure over 38" wide! In addition to the beautiful photographs the authors have included detailed written descriptions.
People of all ages that are interested in the history, landscape, and culture of Ireland will show more thoroughly enjoy this book. The list price is $75 according to the inside flap, making it a bargain at the current Amazon price. show less

This is a large size book filled with beautiful pictures from all over Ireland. A bit of history and is thrown in. Many panoramic pictures of beautiful vistas. There are quite a few photos of castles and other ancient sites throughout the green isle.
Ireland stood at the forefront of Westem European artistic culture in antiquity, when great passage graves were built; during the 7th and 8th centuries AD, when the Irish produced masterpieces of metalwork and manuscript illumination; and during the 18th century, an age of classical elegance. The achievements of these periods and others survive largely intact. This survey describes the whole sequence of Irish art and architecture. Peter Harbison, chairman of the National Monuments Advisory show more Council, is author of "Pre-Christian Ireland" (Thames and Hudson, 1988). Homan Potterton was Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, 1980-88. Jeanne Sheehy is author of "The Rediscovery of Ireland's Past" (Thames and Hudson, 1980). show less
