This book went through all of the things that go on behind the scenes at a zoo and how the workers take care of each animal. It was a cute read but I would not use this for any academic units but maybe as an addition to a classroom library. It says the names of each animal and their family and talks about the food and habitats that are built for each animal and why they are helpful in creating a realistic environment for the animal such as a tall grassy ield for giraffes and a cement tree show more with swings for a monkey. It also talks about the feeding of each animal and the veterinarians that come in to bathe and see to the animals medical needs. It relates things to our own background knowledge such as hearing sounds louder when we cup our hands behind our ears and how we need a variety of food as well to stay happy and healthy. Overall it is a cute and semi-educational book for 2nd-4th grade. show less
Overall, not the best book! It seems a little dated, and gives little concrete scientific info. It's more of an awkward cross between the story of people adopting dogs and an informational book. The information is extremely basic and seems to be for kids in pre-school. The book could potentially interest anyone who likes puppies at least! Beagles are very cute it turns out.
This is a great informational book because it gives lots of factual information about the ocean, tide pools, and animals that live in or near the ocean. It provides accurate and detailed information in an informative manner. Even the illustrations in this book contribute information in that they are all photographs and so they are accurate and informativee. The setting of this book takes place on a rocky shore and then moves outward into the tide pools, and then the ocean. It does not tell show more us what the specific location is because most of these facts pertain to rocky shores in numerous places. The setting fits with the genre and theme of the book as it seeks to inform us about the place and characteristics of this place. As the setting changes, it moves the book forward as we start with the familiarity of the shore and land, and then gradually move out deeper into the ocean.
