Earth, Sky, Wet, Dry: A Book of Nature Opposites has very few words. But, where the book lacks in words it makes up in illustrations. I liked looking at the pages and comparing the detailed illustrations. It seems liked two totally different worlds. My favorite page was "big and small." The big page showed a giant squirrel and the small page showed an itty bitty bug. If you did not look close enough you might miss it. I think a classroom with younger students would love finding the opposite show more pictures. They would also be able to sound out each word. This book is a great mentor text for a science lesson. I would challenge my class to create their own opposite nature book with a partner. show less
Very straightforward and simple, but a great teaching tool for younger kids. Each half of the picture shows us opposites found in nature such as hunter/prey, few/many, dry/wet, stormy/quiet. Would be a nice little project to have kids make their own book of opposites in the same style.
Time zones may be a difficult concept for little ones, but with the help of While You Are Sleeping, it may be a bit easier. In this story two times zones are compared. While a little boy is waking up in his bed, a little girl may be coming home from school. A clock is shown at both locations so that the reader can compare the time difference. This story would be great for interdisciplinary studies because it ties in math with the difference in time, social students with the different places show more around the world, and science with the reason for why the times are different. show less
"Earth, Sky, Wet, Dry" is a simple read that describes various opposites in nature. With one word on each page and every other page rhyming, this book would be great for any early childhood classroom. This book integrates many academic concepts such as opposites, rhymes, seasons, etc. It will also introduce children to words such as dormant and prey and would be great for a discussion with early readers.
