MONSTERS LOVE COLORS written and illustrated by Mike Austin Harper Collins 978-0062125941 Ages 3-8 40 pages
For everyone out there who works with the wiggly variety of the human species, here is a fabulous book guaranteed to capture the squirmiest of squirmers and to sneak some book learnin' into their heads while they aren't noticing. We're teaching colors here like nobody else and it turns out colors are really FUN!
Forget ROYGBV and move on up to monsters! "Monsters love to scribble, show more scribble, mix, dance, and wiggle!" You get my drift. They're a mishin' and a mashin' and a squishin' and a squashin'! And they LUVVVV new colors! So bust out that red...the one that roars and snores and "more!"How about yellow? Anybody want to claim yellow? This is no wimpy color either. This is the yellow that will "prowl and howl and growl." Every monster has his or her favorite color and hey, did you know you can mix the colors and make new colors? "And what new favorite color can we make for you?" They are having an all out blast mixing up those colors with a scribble scribble here and a dance dance there. This would make a great read aloud for young artists in the making who can't wait to make everyone's life a little more colorful!

Solid and amusing back to school book -- I think it would be fun to read aloud for preschool/gradeschool -- lots of good opportunities for silly sounds.

Out of all the books we read and looked at tonight, this is the only one that my one-year-old stopped to actually follow along with. The illustrations are exciting and there are just enough silly sounds to make reading it fun while still teaching the colors.

Happy, friendly-looking monsters have a fabulous time scribbling with crayons and splashing paint in colors of the rainbow. A fun, lively concept book for preschoolers.
