I love a good serial killer book, and Butterfly Kisses didn’t disappoint. It has enough creepy crawly elements to make your skin crawl, but never crossed into full gross-out territory, which I appreciate. I love Detective Damien Drake and while you could argue that he’s a stereotype, this particular stereotype exists for a reason, unfortunately, and he rings very true to me.

There are some typos in the book, and they are distracting in that they briefly pull you out of the story, but show more that doesn’t change the fact that this is a good story and Patrick Logan is a good writer. I have every intention of reading more in this series and others by Logan, and I would definitely recommend the book. show less
Alright, there were times I got spooked, I will fully admit to that!

The story is quite good, the settings, the descriptions, the general atmosphere of the narration pretty much on point in making the reader anticipate what will happen almost to the point of dreading it. To say I was hooked is an understatement.

For some reasons, though they could be considered short, the length of the chapters were just right in creating that suspenseful tone, of making me turn page after page.

Truly a very show more good read... especially at night, when it's stormy out and you're all alone in the house... Yeah, I can be a masochist when I want.

I will say that certain scenes, especially the one at the end was viscerally hard for me to read and, yes, as much as I was spooked, I also bawled my eyes out...

Sometimes you get lucky -- style or concept can save a book that's only just unremarkable. In this case, even better writing might not have been able to overcome a relentlessly unappealing protagonist, cumbersome plot advancement, and off-the-shelf scares that are ultimately unattached to a larger, probably scarier and more satisfying back story. Even given that this is probably just a place-setting for the series of books to come, it is a ghost story told on a sunny day at the beach, not by show more candlelight late at night. show less
The story line revolves around a woman named Chase who’s training to become an FBI agent so she can hopefully find her missing sister. Chase is a struggling addict in the middle of a divorce and custody battle. She likes difficult cases and tends to want cases that have women for victims.

I like that the storyline is fast paced and is entertaining. There were not any slow parts and the characters are relatively likeable. The ending have a good twist when it came to solving the case.

I did show more not like this book as much as I liked book 1. The addiction part was a little drawn out during the entirety of the book and it took focus away from the case of the murdered women. I think there could’ve been a lot more focus on the actual case versus Chase and her personal issues, the case lacked a lot of detail and felt rushed.

★★★ Not too much of a fan of this one. But because of my OCD issues, I won’t leave a series unread, I will continue on to book 3.
