I'm really digging this because it's no-holds-barred. Since it's not in the normal Earth, they can do whatever they want. Anyone could die at any moment and then not come back to life as often happens in comics.
The amount that is going on is giving me a sore neck, but I like it overall. I'm glad that I read the other Earth 2 stuff or I would be totally lost. But it also seems strange because some of the Earth 2 stuff was coming out at the same time this was, so I'm switching back and forth show more between the series hoping not to get a spoiler by reading all of one. show less

If the first half of World's End (Vol.1) was a gripping buildup to the invasion and destruction of Earth, then this is the long-toothed conclusion, which is aided by the no-less-imminent apocalypse courtesy of Apokolips. Watching Alan Scott figure out the umpteenth loophole to activating his powers goes down a lot easier when the consequences of his delays keep getting worse.
If I've got my story threads straight, I believe the issues comprising this trade are meant to interweave with the World's End event issues, which is unfortunate because many of these issues are build-up for characters without any payoff. This trade is a lot of backstory without any sort of catharsis or resolution - not that catharsis is mandatory, but on its own, this volume is more like a montage than anything.
I think I like Earth 2 better than Earth 1. The situation is just so desperate and people are dying and things are happening in space and all over the world with different heroes. My only problem with this is that it came out at the same time Earth 2 World's End was coming out so I was worried about reading one before the other because I thought it would spoil something or not make sense. It didn't really, but I started reading some of one and then some of the other.
You definitely need to show more have Earth 2 World's End to finish this story and I would suggest reading them in the order they came out because there is overlap and the story finishes in World's End. show less
