I do so like this series. It is just plain good fun. This author is so talented. He treats the readers to an intelligent...not easy to solve mystery, but you will have a great time trying. There is a dash of romance, along with a great cast of characters. In fact, these characters are strong enough to hold up their part of the story while never taking anything away from Blake and Harrison. What we have is a story that is absolutely perfectly balanced. Robert Innes provides just enough show more tension for us to be worried that things will go wrong, even though we know without a doubt that Blake just has to save Harrison, and that good will, as always...prevail. It will have you turning the pages to see how it will all be explained. So... what will improve this wonderful series? Longer books with a bit more Blake and Harrison time. But it’s hard to improve on perfection. show less
I have read this series so out of order, but it doesn't seem to matter. I did have the good sense to read book 1 first. I didn't like Blake Harte to begin with. He seemed rough and rude to everyone and condescending to those that only wanted to help him, even to Harrison who had a major crush on him from day one. As their relationship has grown, he's mellowed a bit. I know that Blake has been trying give Harrison time to recover from his prior relationships....and he's had quite a few. Blake show more also has to find an emotional conclusion to his feelings about Nathan, his last ex. I would think that enough time has passed that Harrison would to be more secure in the person he has become. He really needs take a deep breath and accept that he is worth being loved. This author seems to be progressively better with each book in this series. The mystery is well written and this one is for lack of a better word, clever. As I have said, the romance needs a little work. I can't imagine why someone hasn't turned these books into a great mystery series for TV. show less
This is fast becoming a favorite series for me. It appeals to the murder mystery side of me as well as “The Ghost Story Junkie” that dwells inside and often demand attention. The main characters from the first book...Blake and Harrison are improving. It was a mild suggestion in the last book that Harrison would be Blakes’ love interest...but becomes quite obvious in this one. I hope that Mr. Innes gives Harrison a bit more personality in the future writings. The plot was intriguing and show more well done. The question for the reader to solve became not WHO the murder was, but WHY. I will find book #3. They are difficult if not impossible, for some city libraires to order...mine included... as they seem to be published to/for Amazon only and many city libraries can only order from certain sites assigned to them. show less
The story could easily be a stand-alone, but the town and its people are all set up for repeat performances as the series goes forward. To get an idea of the lead character, try to imagine Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple as a thirty-year-old heartbroken gay man, and you’ll get the idea. If you like trying to solve the crime, you’ll find that this is a clever locked room mystery...and good luck solving this one. I did find all the characters a tad too abrupt and almost unlikable. I’m show more going to go for another one, but hope that Harte especially, will become a bit more centered and calmer. show less
