America's sweetheart, Jenna Fischer, takes us along with her on her journey from obscurity to the life of ... well, continued struggle and work in Hollywood. Although this book is primarily an instruction manual for young, aspiring actors, it is also chock full of interesting stories and fascinating glimpses into the (not so) glamorous life of a working actor.

I have absolutely no interest in being an actor, and doubly so now after Ms. Fischer's incredibly insightful and realistic account of show more her experience. This is not a puff piece - it provides an honest look and the trials and tribulations while providing advice, hope, and inspiration to those who are determined to continue down this career path. Ms. Fischer writes clearly and engagingly and I'm sure someone considering the acting profession will find it very helpful. show less
You have to be a big fan of the TV show “The Office” to enjoy this book fully, and that is what I am. So, why just three stars out of five? The main reason is something I consider a major flaw in the book: the lack of informational captions with the scores of interesting and entertaining photos scattered throughout the book. Listing the photo credit of the two authors seemed not only redundant, but really lacking. Often the text around the photos gave the reader enough information to show more know what is going on in the particular picture. However, in many cases, you have no idea who the people are if they aren’t cast members who are recognizable. I can’t understand why the girls did this. It can’t be because they don’t have enough information to properly caption the photos. I can’t imagine it’s because they were lazy. Maybe it was some sort of legal issue. I’m not sure. All I am sure of is this is a major flaw in an otherwise very entertaining book. Getting to know Pam and Angela in this way added to my enjoyment of the TV show, which I still watch on reruns. Angela especially took on a new life since she is obviously not at all like her character on the show. And thank goodness she isn’t. I will listen to the girls’ podcast now having read the book. If you are a big fan of “The Office,” this is must reading for you. show less
I have been thoroughly enjoying the Office Ladies podcast for the past several years. Jenna and Angela are delightful hosts, wonderful friends, and all-around inspiring ladies! When they released the first chapter of their audiobook in a special episode of the podcast, I decided to listen to it while reading my physical copy so it would feel like they were reading their book out loud to me. I enjoyed the experience so much, I decided to go ahead and buy the audiobook as well so I could read show more the whole book that way!

(Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey literally read their book out loud to me while I looked at the pictures. :D )

Jenna and Angela talk about the show, their friendship, their ups and downs in life, the other cast members, directors, writers, and crew. It’s a lot like the podcast but with more of a big-picture focus rather than the one-episode-at-a-time format of the podcast. There’s an entire chapter about Jim and Pam, one dedicated to the amazing women who worked on the show, a very interesting and slightly gross one about their real and fake pregnancies, and fun stories about how they all nearly died while filming on boats and buses.

The physical book is absolutely chock-full of photographs on every page, and the audiobook has a few extra surprises like a hilarious foreword from Rainn Wilson, an interview with Jennifer Garner, and some musical treats from Creed Bratton, Ed Helms, and Kate Flannery.

If a big warm group hug could be turned into a book, this would be that book! There is love pouring out of the pages!

A comforting, funny and energetic read, this is a must for fans of The Office (US). It's my favourite show of all time, and this book does a great job of taking a look back at the people who brought the show to life both in front and behind the cameras, whilst delivering stories about what it was like filming the nine seasons of the show, and what it would eventually mean to Jenna and Angela. Brilliant stuff. Loved it. It was hard to put down (that's what she said).
