Short biography
Born in Manchester, UK to British & Swiss parents. A year later they moved to Switzerland.

After completing commercial studies in Geneva, I worked as a PA for DuPont. A year later I moved to Neuchâtel and became the Purchasing Manager for a high-tech company that made motors for industrial and space applications. While working, I returned to university, studying part-time for a Bachelor of Science. And then a friend of a friend introduced me to another friend who’d started up an IT recruitment business. I joined the company late 1995, and over the next fifteen years rose through the ranks to become CEO.

Things outside of work were hardly boring, either. A chance encounter back in the dark ages of the Internet in 1999 led me down the aisle with Rob, my Canadian rock, five months later. Actually it was exactly ten weeks after we met face-to-face at the Saint John airport in New Brunswick, Canada – and we’re still married. True story. Our first son was born in 2003, followed by identical twin boys just sixteen months later, so I’m heavily outnumbered (and at 5ft8 officially the shortest of the family).

My writing career began after we moved to Oakville in Ontario, Canada in 2010. Maybe it was the failed attempt at a start-up company, or an early mid-life crisis, but one morning I decided to follow my oldest passion, started writing, and never wanted to look back. My first book was a rom-com, but then I switched to the dark side of suspense.

Never Coming Home is one of those stories where you think you’ve figured it out early on. If you read enough mysteries and psychological thrillers you figure out some of the logic and see some of the patterns. But this is also one of those stories where it doesn’t matter at all if you’ve figured it out because working through it is just so much fun. And don’t worry. You really won’t figure it all out. You are in for some stunning surprises.

Lucas seems awful but kind of compellingly show more awful. Since we only have his take on Michelle and her family, murder might have been a little extreme but she does seem like a pain. And that father of hers . . . . Her dying mother is the only one Lucas will be sorry to see gone. And of course none of this is really personal. He just has needs and a plan to satisfy them.

At the start of the story Lucas seems so in control, so methodical, so clever. But as time goes on and we learn more of his backstory we see “in control” might be overstating it. And as little, teeny, tiny problems arise his mental state gets a little shakier. You have to hand it to him, though. He hangs in there, comes up with alternate plans, is confident his brilliant plan will come to fruition – and that he fully deserves it to.

Hannah Mary McKinnon is a remarkable author. The words flow, the characters are compelling, the plot speeds along and you try to speed your reading along to keep with it, reveling in each twist and turn. Highly recommend.

A Killer Motive by Hannah Mary McKinnon
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Getting lost in "A Killer Motive" is like diving into a suspenseful and mesmerizing scavenger hunt that you just can't resist.

Shoutout to Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse for knowing how to derail my weekend plans! Once I cracked open Hannah Mary McKinnon’s latest gem, I was hooked. It kicks off with a sister wrestling with guilt over her brother’s disappearance. It quickly escalates into a show more nail-biting psychological tug-of-war with a mysterious caller who clearly has too much time on their hands. Each chapter is a tiny dose of dread that keeps you up way too late, tricking you into thinking one more chapter will be enough!

⁉️If a stranger sent you a mysterious message claiming to know a family secret, would you engage with them to discover what it is?
🅰️I’d probably try to find out because I’m pretty nosy about that stuff!

Stella, a tormented podcaster, gets sucked into a twisted scavenger hunt to uncover what really happened to her brother Max. The true-crime element perfectly blends voyeurism, desperation, and danger. The “invisible enemy” pulling the strings is terrifying.

The pacing is ruthless, the clues are creative, and that final reveal is a knockout. If you think you know where it’s going, you don’t.

I would’ve loved more behind-the-scenes drama of podcasting—it’s such a juicy angle! But that’s just me nitpicking because the rest of the story hits all the right spots.

As the oldest sibling, I totally vibed with Stella’s big-sister energy. Who wouldn’t want an older sister cool enough to sneak you out for a night of fun? Sisterhood, trauma, suspense? Sign me up! "A Killer Motive" proves that Hannah Mary McKinnon is an author to keep your eye on!

Thank you to the author and #HTPBooks for providing this gifted eARC through #NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Wow! This exhilarating read captivated me with its jaw-dropping twists and turns. It's a rollercoaster of unpredictability that kept me on the edge of my seat and the ending? SO gratifying! Hannah Mary McKinnon always hits it out of the park, so I decided to treat myself to one of her earlier books before the year ended, and it is a total winner!

From the moment Lucas steps onto the page, you can't help but feel a pang of sympathy for him. His wife, Michelle, has vanished, and his beloved show more mother-in-law doesn't have much time left. To add to his troubles, Lucas is juggling the cost of his invalid father's care in an upscale care facility overseas. He's even taken on the responsibility of watching his drug-addicted brother-in-law and trying to keep him sober...well, sort of. And he's playing the part of a grieving husband perfectly!

But don't be fooled by Lucas's charming and witty demeanor—a darker side lurks beneath that handsome facade. This man is a master of deception. Michelle isn't missing; he hired a hitman to get rid of her to get his hands on her money. And now that his mother-in-law is dying, there will be a lot more of it. He's had an agenda since he met Michelle, and he's been a swindler his entire life. He's planned this meticulously, so when mysterious photos and notes start showing up, he realizes someone is onto his scheme, and they're playing with him.

What a wild, totally fun and twisted thriller!

What won't some do for fame? The Bittersweet all-girl pop rock band is on the cusp of finding out. Drummer Vienna Taylor and her best friend, guitarist and vocalist, Madison Pierce, are just about to realize their dream after the release of their first single. On the way to a meet and greet party in the Catskills in a blizzard, their SUV crashes. One of the band members is dead and others are injured as they make their way to an abandoned house. show more Not all of the women will survive, and Vienna sees her hopes and plans fall apart.

This was so fast paced and absorbing as the hits just kept on coming that I could not put it down and read it all today. I had no idea, nor did I anticipate or expect the sudden detour the story took and after that it was a mad dash to the ending. There were quite a few characters, but the author gave the main ones great attention and they came alive on the pages as individuals. Both Vienna and Madison were believable and equally surprising. As the narrative passed the halfway mark, I just could not wait to see what happened next as everything is revealed. Go into this blind and you will enjoy it a lot more. Even if you're not a fan of 80s music and perhaps the artists and songs mentioned don't ring a bell, the story is still quite entertaining, and I enjoyed it.

I was able to listen to the audiobook while following along in the e-book ARC provided by the publisher. The narrator, Amy Hall, did a great job of speaking all the different characters but this definitely would have benefited from a larger cast because of the predominantly female voices. The listening always adds to the experience, and this was a well-done production.

Don't read too much about this before you dive in. Enjoy!
