"I can’t guarantee safety, but I believe that God is ultimately in control, even when things don’t make sense. I’m choosing trust over fear.”
This book definitely makes my "most epic books of the year" list y'all!
It was a great read from start to finish, and an excellent addition to the Elite Guardians book universe. Smashing, in fact.
I loved the character of Juliette best. Although all the characters (villains excluded) were pretty great, Juliette had a unique tenacity and show more dedication to the protection of any innocent person in danger or need. Although she was a bit reckless, she cared fiercely about those around her and put their needs and safety above her own.
She also braved a battle with cancer
(mentioned only in a few brief paragraphs) which is why her hair on the cover is shorter than most of the other Guardian women because her hair was still growing back.
Caleb was a very cool character too. He was former Army, a current computer whiz/tech and security business co-owner, loving uncle to Ivy, and a Star Trek nerd. His strong yet gentle faith was one of my favorite character elements, and I loved the part it played in him helping Juliette conquer her giants.
Another thing I especially liked about the story was this mystery featured an investigation of a cyber crime rather than robbery, suspicious deaths, or other violent crimes.
It made this story fresh, unique and exciting!
Guarding Truth was an exquisitely written suspense tale that had me rooting for Juliette and Caleb as they learned to lean more fully on God when the stakes are very high.
Thank you to Sunrise Publishing for the complimentary e-book I received to review through Just Read Tours. I was not required to write a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own. show less

I am not a typical suspense fan. I prefer a suspense novel with deeper issues included. Well-rounded and complex characters are a particular favorite. Oh, and if a book can make me cry it gets a higher rating from me. This book included all of the above. I felt stressed a few times over some characters' welfare. I found their issues and background believable (having been a social worker for 30+ years I can vouch for their dysfunctional way of thinking.) I haven't read all the prior books in show more this series so I was not able to get attached to some of the main character's friends, but that wasn't necessary in order to enjoy this book.
There was a particularly touching seen that got my tears going and it was toward the end. I won't post a spoiler but if you read it you will know what scene I am referring to. The hero was detained and unable to reach the heroine because he was needed to deal with a situation on the family farm. I still get choked up when I think about the conversation. Wow.
What I mean by complex characters is this... Heather, the heroine, was a former soldier and complex because of PTSD. Ryker, a young teen, was complex due to a history of abuse by his father. And the hero was just sweet and patient. Gotta love heroes with a soft heart. Anyway, Lynette is one of those authors that I enjoy reading because her characters seem like real people and aren't cardboard cutouts of what we think characters need to look like in Christian novels. That said, I hope you enjoy this book too. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.Whiteout: An Action Adventure Thriller Romantic Suspense 2-in-1 Novella Collection Set at Colorado Ski Resort by Lynette Eason
Dani Pettrey. Lynette Eason. I consider them both 'must-read' authors, so you can imagine my excitement in learning that they are featured in the same novella collection! Two novellas, each with different characters and plots, but connected by the same ski resort setting and lingering aftermaths of an avalanche. I was immediately aware of the avalanche perils, but it soon became obvious that there was even more danger from human forces. Who was behind the threats to both Cassie and show more Maya?
Pettrey's "Buried in Shadows" and Eason's "Snowbound Secrets" are both intense page-turners that give new meaning to the saying "tension so thick you can cut it with a knife". The constant jeopardy and persistent villains, woven together with inspiration, romance, and second chances, prove that Pettrey and Eason understand the concept of romantic Christian suspense. My only disappointment was that each story ended too soon!

My high expectations for this second book in the Lake City Heroes series were met and exceeded. This book features two expertly plotted storylines—one set in 1947 and the other in present day. The historical storyline compliments and adds depth to the main present-day storyline. It was great to reconnect with the Lake City SWAT team and experience Kenzie and Cole’s story. The fast-paced, intensely suspenseful action kept me totally immersed and guessing! The characters are well-crafted show more and believable. I love Kenzie and Cole as individuals and as a couple. I enjoyed how their sweet romantic relationship develops as they face danger from a killer and deal with Kenzie’s struggle to fit in with the SWAT team. I love this book and highly recommend it and the series. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Note: Although there are carryover characters from the previous book, this book can be read as a standalone.
