Search and Detect by Terri Reed is a page turner. I enjoyed getting to know Zoe Jenkins, FBI Agent Chase Rawlston, and Chase’s K9 partner, Dash. I love Dash who is clever and protective. The characters are complex, especially Chase who is struggling with the loss of his wife and child. Zoe and Chase are both fearful of loving and trusting someone again. If Zoe and her daughter are going to survive, she will need to trust Chase (and Dash). There is danger, suspense, and action which kept show more the story lively. I enjoyed the twists and turns as they work to identify the Rocky Mountain Killer. Faith is nicely woven into the story. I like how the author balanced the suspense with touching, emotional moments. While Search and Detect is the eighth book in the Mountain Country K-9 Unit, it can be read as a standalone. I have a feeling, though, that you will want to go back and read all the books in this engaging series. Search and Detect is a captivating tale with a big boom, a clever canine, a grieving FBI agent, a cruel killer, a darling daughter, and God’s grace. show less
I started reading Standing Watch by Terri Reed before going to bed which turned out to be a mistake. I found myself reading this compelling tale until the wee hours. I thought Standing Watch was well-written with developed characters. I could feel the chemistry and tension between Eden and Zach. I admit, though, there were times when I wanted to bonk Zach over the head, because he was being so thickheaded over a certain issue. I loved the dogs. They are sweet and smart. I am continually show more impressed by the capabilities of dogs. Standing Watch has mystery, suspense, and action (which kept things lively). Someone was determined to kill Eden and Zach was dedicated to keeping her safe. The story had layers (it reminded me of an onion where you peel back layer after layer which each one better than the last) which made it more interesting. Standing Watch is the third book in the Dakota K-9 Unit series. It can be read independently but reading them sequentially may provide a more cohesive experience. I enjoyed the descriptions of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. I was surprised to learn that it is not a national park, but a national memorial managed by the national park service. Standing Watch is an absorbing story with a murdered ranger, an unforeseen surprise, a shielding spouse, a tenacious slayer, and a second chance romance. show less
What happens when a witness becomes the target? When one courageous decision pulls you deep into the shadows of danger, can you still stand tall in faith? Trained to Protect delivers just that … and so much more! It’s a powerful reminder of God's protection, the strength of relationships, and the fierce loyalty of a K-9 team on the hunt.

This story wrapped itself around me like the tide pulling a sea turtle—smooth, yet with an undercurrent of danger I couldn’t shake. Julia Hamilton, show more working at a sea turtle rescue, leads a life filled with compassion, but it’s her brave choice to stop a kidnapping that thrusts her into something far more terrifying. As the cartel closes in, it’s K-9 officer Tarren McGregor—her brother’s best friend—who steps in, ready to protect her, no matter the cost.

The suspense is relentless, yet it’s the faith woven into this story that truly stands out. When it is said, “We can only do our best and pray that God will lead us to the answers,” it hits a note that resonates with us all. In the midst of the chase, when the stakes are at their highest, it’s trust in God that keeps them moving forward—through the danger, through the uncertainty. You feel it in every page, every prayer, and every breath they take.

The romance builds from years of friendship and undeniable chemistry—but it’s the trust, vulnerability, and devotion they share that makes their relationship so moving. Tarren’s internal struggle—his feeling of unworthiness—adds a layer of tension that kept my heart racing, just as much as the action did.

I couldn’t put this book down. The suspense kept me hooked, but it was the Christian themes of faith, grace, and God’s sovereignty that truly captivated my heart. This story beautifully reminded me of God’s tender care, even when we’re navigating the fiercest of storms.

Terri Reed does it again, delivering a story as fierce as a K-9 team on the hunt. If you're craving a suspenseful journey where faith and devotion run as deep as the bonds between friends and protectors, Trained to Protect should be your next read!

Shielding the Innocent Target by Terri Reed is a breath-stealing blend of romantic suspense and unshakeable faith. We meet Paige Walsh, a woman thrust into a terrifying situation after witnessing her boss's murder. As a relentless assassin sets his sights on Paige and her son, Deputy US Marshal Lucas Cavendish becomes their protector - a shield against physical harm and the relentless shadows of fear.

This novel goes beyond typical romantic suspense. Reed authentically portrays God as the show more comforting presence, offering solace amidst the constant danger. We see Paige clinging to prayer as a lifeline, the sovereignty of God -- drawing strength from her beliefs during moments of despair. Lucas, too, looks to God for His peace, guidance, protection, offering a unique dynamic to their bond.

What truly sets this book apart is the pervasive sense of danger. Unlike stories with temporary safe havens, the threat here is a constant companion. No matter the bustling city or desolate highway, the assassin seems to be one step ahead, leaving Paige and Lucas perpetually on edge. This relentless pursuit creates a suffocating atmosphere, amplifying the emotional stakes with every turn of the page.

In the face of relentless danger, Lucas's faith becomes a lifeline. His whispered pleas for divine intervention punctuate the narrative. From the providential discovery of a functioning truck despite a flat tire to the overwhelming relief of surviving a night unscathed, every moment underscores their gratitude for God's protection. These instances highlight the profound connection between faith and resilience, where even the smallest blessings are celebrated as divine intervention in the midst of life-or-death situations.

Shielding the Innocent Target isn't for the faint of heart. It's a white-knuckle rollercoaster ride where danger lurks around every corner. What elevates this novel is its genuine portrayal of the Christian journey. Through the characters' struggles and the ongoing terrors, the unwavering presence of God shines brightly. This journey leads to a deeper faith for both the characters and the reader alike. Brace yourself to be ensnared not just by the relentless suspense, but also by the formidable shield of faith, piercing through the darkest of circumstances with a beacon of hope and unwavering courage, hitting the target of your heart with its transformative force.
