Fun book. Aidan Castle is ready for some peace and quiet after a busy few months getting Castle's newest store up and running. The pure technology store is his baby, and he wants everything to be just right. Staying at his friend and future brother-in-law's ranch while he does so is just the escape that Aidan needs. That is until he comes home one night to find Cara asleep on the sofa, wearing a wedding dress of all things. He's reminded of the night of the Castle costume ball, where he and show more Cara shared some pretty smoking kisses before she fled.
Cara barely escaped making a disastrous mistake. After falling for what seemed like the perfect man, she discovered he was nothing but a con man. To avoid the paparazzi and decide what to do next, she fled to the family ranch. Cara is determined to keep her troubles secret from her family, at least until after her brother's wedding. The last person she expected to see was Aidan.
I enjoyed that first meeting between Aidan and Cara. Neither was particularly happy to see the other, as those earlier kisses still burned in their memories. But when Aidan finds out about Cara's problem, he insists on helping her. Aidan's computer geek tendencies come in handy as he works to protect Cara and help her bring Trey down. Though the attraction between them grows stronger, both of them have some serious trust issues. I got very frustrated with Cara a few times because she withheld information from Aidan that he really needed to have. Aidan senses there are things she doesn't tell him, and those omissions make him wonder if he can trust her.
As they spend more time together, both Cara and Aidan realize that their hearts are involved, but neither one is ready to take that final leap. Cara's brother's wedding grows closer, and her family's arrival adds complications to the plans to stop Trey. I understood Cara's reservations about confessing to her brother, Nico, but I also felt that she likely overdramatized his reaction. The ensuing conversation was eye-opening for Cara but did nothing to change her mind about protecting him from her mistakes. I had to laugh at her machinations to carry out her plan. Because Aidan knows her so well by this point, he is one step ahead of her. I loved the final confrontation as Cara wreaked her own havoc on Trey. Aidan's arrival with backup was perfectly timed and provided a fitting end.
I loved the ending. Aidan and Cara finally get past all of their issues by actually being honest with each other. The epilogue is a fun wrap-up.

These wonderful stories will make you want to go and find all the rest of the Alaska K-9 books, I’m sure! I loved how these were not only about your regular troopers with K-9’s but rather those whose work is normally behind the scenes. A forensic scientist, a criminal psychologist and a tech wiz would not be the first folks you would think of when considering a K-9 unit. However, things would not run very smoothly without these professionals.

Amish Christmas Kinner contains three novellas by Lenora Worth, Rachel J. Good, and Kelly Long. I enjoyed reading the three sweet Amish stories. The three tales are Christmas Eve Baby by Lenora Worth (The Shadow Lake series), Best Christmas Program Ever by Lenora Worth (Surprised by Love series), and Loving Luke by Kelly Long (The Amish Mail Order Grooms series). I thought all three were well-written with steady pacing. They are stories of romance and faith. We get to see how the Amish show more celebrate Christmas. I like their holiday traditions and how the holidays center around family. I did feel that Christmas Eve Baby was a tad long (when you begin to wonder if it will ever end, you know it is too long). Forgiveness, new beginnings, letting go, family, and faith are the themes. Best Christmas Program is the story that really tugged at my heartstrings. While each novella is part of a series, each one can be read on its own. Amish Christmas Kinner is a collection of stories that can be read at Christmas or anytime of the year. This is a heartwarming anthology. show less
Lily Winslow has just buried her husband after caring for him through his cancer. She is a Texas bayou lady who loves the simple life. Mason Winslow is a city bachelor who feels duty bound to help Lily now that her husband has died. What makes it even more interesting is that Daniel (the deceased husband) has left in his will that he wants Lily and Mason to get married and live happily ever after. No pressure there! Lily and Mason will eventually decide for many reasons that don't include show more love to get married. There will be feelings of guilt, of remorse and of "did we really do the right thing!". But through it all they will both realize the love they have for each other and how very special that love is. There is a lot going on in this story and a lot of lessons to learn; forgiveness being one of the major ones.
As the back cover says, "Lily couldn't decide whether marrying her husband's brother would be a betrayal . . . or a blessing". I think she figured it out by the end of the book and I feel blessed to have read her story. show less
