Search and Detect by Terri Reed is a page turner. I enjoyed getting to know Zoe Jenkins, FBI Agent Chase Rawlston, and Chase’s K9 partner, Dash. I love Dash who is clever and protective. The characters are complex, especially Chase who is struggling with the loss of his wife and child. Zoe and Chase are both fearful of loving and trusting someone again. If Zoe and her daughter are going to survive, she will need to trust Chase (and Dash). There is danger, suspense, and action which kept show more the story lively. I enjoyed the twists and turns as they work to identify the Rocky Mountain Killer. Faith is nicely woven into the story. I like how the author balanced the suspense with touching, emotional moments. While Search and Detect is the eighth book in the Mountain Country K-9 Unit, it can be read as a standalone. I have a feeling, though, that you will want to go back and read all the books in this engaging series. Search and Detect is a captivating tale with a big boom, a clever canine, a grieving FBI agent, a cruel killer, a darling daughter, and God’s grace. show less
I started reading Standing Watch by Terri Reed before going to bed which turned out to be a mistake. I found myself reading this compelling tale until the wee hours. I thought Standing Watch was well-written with developed characters. I could feel the chemistry and tension between Eden and Zach. I admit, though, there were times when I wanted to bonk Zach over the head, because he was being so thickheaded over a certain issue. I loved the dogs. They are sweet and smart. I am continually show more impressed by the capabilities of dogs. Standing Watch has mystery, suspense, and action (which kept things lively). Someone was determined to kill Eden and Zach was dedicated to keeping her safe. The story had layers (it reminded me of an onion where you peel back layer after layer which each one better than the last) which made it more interesting. Standing Watch is the third book in the Dakota K-9 Unit series. It can be read independently but reading them sequentially may provide a more cohesive experience. I enjoyed the descriptions of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. I was surprised to learn that it is not a national park, but a national memorial managed by the national park service. Standing Watch is an absorbing story with a murdered ranger, an unforeseen surprise, a shielding spouse, a tenacious slayer, and a second chance romance. show less
Danger in the Rockies gave me the kind of suspense that makes an audiobook hard to pause. Maren Anderson catches a glimpse of the twin sister she believed was dead, and before she can even understand what she has seen, gunfire breaks through the moment. That opening grabbed my attention immediately.
What made this story especially compelling was that Opal’s disappearance felt like more than a mystery to solve. It felt like an old wound suddenly reopened. Maren is trying to survive while show more also trying to understand whether the sister she grieved is truly alive, why criminals are hunting her, and what truth has been hiding in the shadows all this time.
I loved the Rocky Mountain setting. It gave the story a rugged, high-pressure atmosphere where danger felt both wide open and far too close. Terri Reed kept the tension moving, and there were moments when the suspense had that heart-beating-out-of-your-chest feeling I enjoy in romantic suspense.
Colt was a strong match for this story because he brought law-enforcement focus without taking over Maren’s fight. I liked watching him and Maren work through the danger while the mystery around Opal kept pulling everything tighter. The K-9 investigation gave the story a searching, alert quality that fit the mountain setting so well.
Tanya Eby’s narration was great. She kept the story clear and engaging, which matters so much in a suspense audiobook. I could follow the danger, feel the pressure, and stay connected to the characters without the narration feeling too dramatic. Her performance helped make this an enjoyable listen from beginning to end.
I was also grateful this stayed in the lane I reach for with Love Inspired Suspense. The story gave me danger without darkness taking over the room. Faith was present in a quieter way, enough to keep the hope visible while Maren and Colt were fighting through fear and uncertainty.
This is the part I will remember most: Maren did not simply stumble into danger. She saw the sister she thought she had already lost, and that one impossible glimpse turned grief into pursuit. That gave the whole story its ache, and it is what kept me listening.
I received a digital ARC of this audiobook book from the publisher via NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and was not compensated in any way. What happens when a witness becomes the target? When one courageous decision pulls you deep into the shadows of danger, can you still stand tall in faith? Trained to Protect delivers just that … and so much more! It’s a powerful reminder of God's protection, the strength of relationships, and the fierce loyalty of a K-9 team on the hunt.
This story wrapped itself around me like the tide pulling a sea turtle—smooth, yet with an undercurrent of danger I couldn’t shake. Julia Hamilton, show more working at a sea turtle rescue, leads a life filled with compassion, but it’s her brave choice to stop a kidnapping that thrusts her into something far more terrifying. As the cartel closes in, it’s K-9 officer Tarren McGregor—her brother’s best friend—who steps in, ready to protect her, no matter the cost.
The suspense is relentless, yet it’s the faith woven into this story that truly stands out. When it is said, “We can only do our best and pray that God will lead us to the answers,” it hits a note that resonates with us all. In the midst of the chase, when the stakes are at their highest, it’s trust in God that keeps them moving forward—through the danger, through the uncertainty. You feel it in every page, every prayer, and every breath they take.
The romance builds from years of friendship and undeniable chemistry—but it’s the trust, vulnerability, and devotion they share that makes their relationship so moving. Tarren’s internal struggle—his feeling of unworthiness—adds a layer of tension that kept my heart racing, just as much as the action did.
I couldn’t put this book down. The suspense kept me hooked, but it was the Christian themes of faith, grace, and God’s sovereignty that truly captivated my heart. This story beautifully reminded me of God’s tender care, even when we’re navigating the fiercest of storms.
Terri Reed does it again, delivering a story as fierce as a K-9 team on the hunt. If you're craving a suspenseful journey where faith and devotion run as deep as the bonds between friends and protectors, Trained to Protect should be your next read!
