Alta Macadam

This Blue Guide is superb. I recently spent two weeks in Rome. This book helped shape almost every day I was there, and added excellent background information to give context to what I saw. Also, I found the judgments made by the authors to be spot-on in pretty much every case. The Blue Guide is reputed to be the best travel guide to Rome in English, and although I did not really try out the competition on my trip, I cannot imagine how any of the others could top this one. A pretty good travel guide--it really goes in depth into the history of sites and explains the art and architecture well. It also lists some sites and museums that other guides gloss over or skip altogether. The map of the city was also very good, and the 8 walks were really interesting, although they could have been longer. Some of the practical information about sites (such as admission fees and times) was a little lacking or off, so it was good to have a companion travel guide as well show more (which I typically do). show less
