Heh, a book about Jews written by someone with the last name of 'Bacon.' Heh. Heehee. Makes me want to have a BLT on a bagel, it does. I must need sleep, because a Bacon-Jewish history book should not be that amusing to me. Sorry, Ms. Bacon for giggling at your name.

The book has pretty maps and has a good sense of continuity. The first parts of it might offend those who seem to think that the world is 6,000 years old, but most people would enjoy this book.

Unlike my accounting text, it would show more not make a good panini press. show less
The book begins by looking at the origins of the Jewish faith, in the wider context of the ancient civilizations, their technology, warfare styles and trade networks. The book contains an extensive section on the Middle Ages. The book wraps up with an examination of the Jewish experience in World War II and the nineteenth century followed by the legacy of the Jews.
NO OF PAGES: 224 SUB CAT I: Reference SUB CAT II: Middle East SUB CAT III: History DESCRIPTION: This visual overview of Jewish history is a successful blend of beautiful cartography, arresting illustrations, and informative text covering the entire range of the Jewish historical experience from patriarchal times to the present. The copious, minutely detailed maps were researched by expert British historian Gilbert. The biblical period, the Diaspora, contemporary Israel, and modern Jewry are show more amply covered. Artistic and cultural developments are treated as well as political and social events. This beautiful volume supersedes Gilbert's earlier work Jewish History Atlas (Macmillan, 1976. rev. ed.), which only takes readers up to the Israeli-Egyptian war of 1973. It's also much broader in scope than Evyatar Friesel's excellent Atlas of Modern Jewish History ( LJ 1/91), which only covers the 17th century to the present.NOTES: Donated by Sid Kase. SUBTITLE: 4000 Years of History show less
