Tale of Three 2020's GOP Women in Pro and Con (May 2024)
Reviews
I generally dislike politicians and books by them, but this was a refreshing break. Haley seems honest, competent, and communicates clearly. I disagree with her on a lot of issues, but she did a good job in SC and at the UN and hopefully there will be more from her in 2024 .
It was inspiring and informative to read Haley's story and see the work she has been doing. I'm not normally one to read books like this, but there were some things I appreciated reading about and learning from her stories.
One quote that jumped out at me:
"I never understood the fear that many diplomats had about being isolated. My view was, and is, if your position is right, you should not be ashamed of it. You should be proud to stand alone with it if you must."
3.5 rounded down.

I gave this book 4.5 stars primarily because it was a story which kept me reading to the end, in just a few short hours I was able to follow Governor Haley's interesting life. I knocked off only half a star because it was boilerplate in the respect that a politician spends most of their memoir recounting their political triumphs. Not to take those away from them, but I am more interesting in their life story, especially a story like hers.
She learned to deal with adversity and it made her a show more stronger person; she was neither white nor black and found her way through childhood better for it. Gov. Haley also learned the struggles of small business owners and those shackled by goverment regulations.
In short, her personal story was inspiring; the book's format was standard fare. show less

Mostly focused on her professional life, which wasn't that educational. I personally would have preferred to know how she even got to the position of Governor of South Carolina. She had some good insights on how important it is to establish a clear chain of command. If she was under another agency when she was an ambassador for the UN, she wouldn't have been able to make much of an impact.
The rest of the book was more informative and give her perspective on how dysfunctional the UN is, the show more situation in many refugee camps around the world, how Trump's cabinet worked to undermine him, etc. show less
