Santina M. Levey (1938–2017)

It's a beautiful book, and one of the few that I've kept. The last page in the book is instructions on various stitches, and I'd have kept this book for the description of the detached buttonhole stitch alone, but, for the lover of fine needlework, this is a true feast of the senses.

There were originally six books published (according to the foreword), but sadly I have only this one.

If you enjoy Factual lacemaking history- this is your book. It's dry, textbook writing, but the information is wonderful, copies of orginal documents about the import/export and purches of Honiton lace, the last section of the book is overflowing with photographs of lace so exquisite.....definately worth the purchase even if you do not read the text!

My fellow lacemakers and I refer to this as the "goddess" lace book. This is the absolute best historical lace reference ever written.

Worth Every penny you spend to have a copy at home for reference.
