Much superior RPG rules to the alternative "A Time of War", which suffers from all of the bloated over-complex nonsense inherent to 80's RPGs despite being published well after the 1980s. Very much narrative focused with minimal skills/numbers and simplified resolution mechanics. Includes resolution for mech combat but I've never used it - we play out combat using the classic tabletop rules instead, with this being the glue holding the sections between battles together. Probably the most useful of the optional rulebooks. Adds crunch on how to manage the logistics and finances of a military/mercenary company over a campaign, adds a bit of a drama layer to long-running scenario or story campaigns when you have a GM handling other players. Includes random generation rules for your player company and for scenarios and planets, if you're into that. Basically, extremely useful if you're treating your Battletech game like an RPG instead of just a wargame, whether show more or not the actual tabletop rules (Destiny or A Time of War) are in use. show less

Although this is a gaming source-book (normally I do not read them because they mostly have only game rules and additions included) this one has a very entertaining back-story and it was truly enjoyable.

Recommended if you like a good SF.

A little overpriced for what you actually get in this. Also, editing, what is that? Frustrating to have a physical book you can't actually use because as-written half of the mechanics and tables are broken and the corrections are all in a .pdf errata file.
