This was assigned reading for work. So I've read it, and now am tasked with implementing changes in my behavior so I can improve my EQ. Okay, I'll try it, but I have to say that in reading the book, and the included case studies, I do not remember a single one that referred to an educator - of either children or adults. The case studies involved professionals and marketing people. As educators, we have to interact differently with students, and working with adult students, I have to remember show more that I must be careful about what questions I ask them so that I do not breach their right to privacy. So while I understand the premise, it isn't all applicable to this educator. I have to tweak it quite a bit to make it work. I will make it work, and we'll see what happens when I do this for a few weeks, as the book suggests, and then retest. Will I improve? We'll see. show less
I was genuinely interested in the concept and this book seemed to get the most attention, so I gave it a try. But it turns out this book is just some consultants' method of promoting themselves and generating corporate contracts. It's full of statistical claims which are outrageous and of course not supported by scientific research. The "research" cited in the end notes all comes from papers and conference talks given by the book's own authors, not peer reviewed journals.

Credibility aside, show more some of the ideas may actually be good, and some of the advice may actually be helpful. But I try not to take advice from self-promoters trying to sell me something. show less
I picked this book to read because I'm trying to read all of the books I own. I didn't think I would get through it so fast (it took 2 days but probably could've taken less had I been in the right headspace). I enjoyed how easy it was to read, since the language was more casual than technical. I also liked how it set up easy to follow guidelines for all of the different parts of emotional intelligence.

I couldn't help but wonder about the differences between gender and EQ ability, which they show more address slightly in the epilogue. I also couldn't help but wonder how much has changed in the 14 years since the book was published.

Overall, it was an interesting read. I may go back and actually follow along with the homework and activities listed in it some time in the future.

I was actually hesitant to read zombie-genre books since most of the books I've read so far couldn’t enable me to envision the terror like on screen. But Cryonic really changed that for me. Aside from the fast-paced and action packed sequences in almost every page, the author's superb writing makes you feel like you are actually right in the middle of it all.

The way it was presented was highly researched, especially on the subject of cryogenics and the aftermath of a possible natural show more disaster. It also diverges from the common setup on almost all zombie related books and films by using cryogenics as the basis of the zombie apocalypse. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wanted a new taste of the undead.

This will keep you awake for hours.
