Synopsis:
Silas Compton always had his eye on Lucy, the veterinarian’s daughter. He was even content to wait for the girl of his dreams to grow up before getting anywhere near her with his family’s double-edged legacy.
Waiting around led to fooling around with his best friend—and an impulsive eruption of desire that Lucy’s innocent eyes weren’t meant to see. Figuring Compton Pass wasn’t big enough for either the three of them or the pain he’d caused, Silas let loose his tightly show more reined wanderlust and headed for Alaska.
Ten years later, when an oil rig accident sends him home, he braces himself for the reopening of old wounds. Instead he finds himself in the care—and welcoming arms—of Lucy and Colby, whose marriage has plenty of room for the man they both still love. And forgive with all their hearts.
As things start to unravel at Compass Ranch, Silas must dig deep for the strength to assume his rightful place in the Compton family…and lay the foundation for a future with his lovers. If he can forgive himself.
Review:
Northern Exposure is the first book in Jayne Rylon’s The Compass Brother’s series. Now to start off I would just like to say, I could read about Cowboys all day long and when I picked up this book, I had doubts about it. I was very surprised.
Ms. Rylon has an ability to pull you into a story and make you feel as though you are actually there. Silas is a very believable character who has had his heart broken and is on a path of self-destruction. The change between before and after, (No, I’m not giving it away) was very dramatic yet at the same time the character didn’t lose any piece of “who” he “is.”
The support characters in this book are also very fun to follow and gave the support needed in order to pull Silas through his rough ordeal.
I thoroughly enjoyed following along on Silas’ story and look forward to meeting each and every one of the additional brothers in the next books. It is one I wouldn’t put down, unless of course, the heat generated by these sext scenes within, caused my house to start fire. ;)

I want a Seth. When we meet him, he has been a very good boy for nearly 3 years. He promised Jodi’s daddy that he wouldn’t touch her until she finished college. This meant that no matter how hard she tried to seduce him, he resisted. Unfortunately for Seth, there is only so much rejection a girl can take. Jodi comes home a woman determined to move on with her life. Yes she loves him, but she isn’t a masochist, and he has hurt her show more one too many times. Marrying Paul has nothing to do with her feelings for him, but it is an easy way to keep him arms length if he lets her. Unfortunately, Seth isn’t an ordinary Cowboy. Seth is a Dominant Cowboy, and a Dominant cowboy in love at that. He isn’t going to give away what he has decided is his easily, especially when he decides that the marriage must be a sham. How can she hope to resist a full-blown Dom Seth charm attack?
Seth is so sexy. From his bad-boy attitude to his honest declarations of affection, I adored him. I don’t know how in the hell Jodi was not supposed to fall in love with him, I was by the end of the novella! He pushes and he pushes (as Doms do!), but he never pushes her to a place where she is uncomfortable or distressed. He tries to make her see what she will be missing with her marriage, but he never tries to take the decision out of her hands. My favourite scene is one involving a webcam and some restraints; it was so funny I laughed aloud, but I want you to find out the details for yourselves :D What I loved about him the most was his reasoning why they couldn’t be together; it was so unselfish yet realistic that it made me swoon a little. He didn’t want her to be something that she wasn’t for him.
Jodi was amazing. She didn’t ever deny her feelings, yet knew they were no good for her. When she came back to the ranch, she was determined not to give in to temptation and try to seduce him, yet he was determined that this time she would be the seduced. She didn’t stand a chance, and I honestly loved her more for the fact that she knew that was the case. She was funny and feisty, yet completely honest and caring with him too. I loved them together, yet there was the small problem in the shape of Paul!
The sex scenes were blooming amazing. He is hot and he likes domination; I was going to love him! One of the most refreshing things was the fact that she was so sexually inexperienced, yet had no sort of hang-ups about what she shouldn’t enjoy. The fact that they both enjoyed themselves, made me enjoy the scenes more. Together they were evaporating the ink on the page!
The blurb of this book hooked me immediately. Cowboys? A mild D/s theme? Yes please! :D However, this book is so much more than I imagined. I liked the whole cast; from the Mother that appeared in only a couple of scenes down to the main cast, everyone was likeable and well written. It was sweet, funny, sexy and also made me cry! I can tell I’ll be following the series. show less

Into the fire is a short stand-alone book by Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon. I have to admit that this duo of authors worked way better for me than the Mari Carr and Lila Dubois one. In this book, I was actually able to relate to a character and I liked the main couple. James is my kind of person and he is the one I was related to. I loved the passion he had for saving the land from fire and being a smokejumper. Ivy was a good person and it was easy to understand where she was coming from and why show more she reacted the way she did. Both characters are not perfect, but they are realistic and that only made the book better. The story was good and I enjoyed myself. I will continue reading the series and I would recommend the book. show less
I am actually surprised, pleasantly though because this was my favorite book in the series. I thought Seth would be my favorite, but I absolutely loved Sawyer and Leah. I was surprised that their relationship and the sex started so early in the book, but of course we had to get to the weddings, and JD's death and funeral in this one. OMG did I cry, but I laughed too esp. with Seth's speech at the funeral about JD telling him to only argue with his wife if he was right, but oh by the way... show more you'll never be right. I absolutely love this family esp. JD. He was always so understanding of his boys, and he gave great advice. I love when he kept telling Saw there is no think about it when it came to Leah. OMG and when they showed him and Vicky the tattoos, and when JD called for everyone to be in the room with him, and the last thing he did was look at Vivky then closed his eyes... how sweet that he still, after all those years, loved his wife that much?!
I would love a follow-up for all of the brothers and their wives and children as well as what happens with Vicky. She was a lot younger than JD, so does she ever find anyone else, or is she ok with it being her, and her boys and their families for the rest of her life?! show less
