The absolute bible, so i am told. To own a set of all the editions is the ultimate aim, but it could be quite an expensive quest.
So why is this book so valued by climbers the world over? It has clear, sensible, usuable advice. Of course.
This is the bible of mountaineering. It details the techniques you need to make it up and get back down. If you can't do everything in this book, you should not be on a big mountain.
If you climb or hike, backcountry or otherwise, you need this book. This is the canonical, encyclopedic reference for all things mountaineering. The Mountaineers frequently update it with new edition.
This is the best mountaineering book period! If you love going to the mountains whether novice or seasoned mountaineer, get this book and read it.
