The title of this book is "Basic Rockcraft" and that is what this book delivers. The instructions are meant to get you and your climbing partner out there and climbing. While technical equipment has improved since the book was published, the equipment shown here is still very viable and usable by the beginner with minimal experience. More importantly, the structure of rock has not changed in the last few million years, so the climbing techniques presented here are still applicable. An added show more bonus are the illustrations. The artwork is informative and the style very retro in an entertaining way.

If you want to learn to rock climb, there are lots of other books you can pick up. The information presented here is good and safe. Since the book is not current, you may be able to get it at a bargain price.

Climbing has changed out of sight since Yosemite hardman Royal Robbins penned this text, but it's still well worth reading.
A follow-up to "Basic Rockcraft" and very much in the same style. While very low tech in comparison to some of the equipment available today, the techniques discuss here are still very valid. Once again the retro illustrations provide a nice comic relief to the dry content of the book.

If you are getting into the sport on a budget, this book, and the equipment shown here, may be found at bargain prices. Recommended for building your climbing bookshelf.
