Mark Twight is one of America's leading alpinists. His gripping accounts have been published around the world, translated into five languages. Sports Illustrated, Outside Magazine, Rock and Ice (and a host of European magazines) have profiled him. Twight was the first and fastest to solo the "Czech show more Route" on Peak Communism (10,000 feet up and down in 36 hours). He made the first ascent of "Deprivation" on Alaska's Mount Hunter (in 72 hours round-trip), climbed five extremely difficult new routes in the French Alps, and made a non-stop, 60-hour ascent of Mount McKinley's "Czech Direct" (the previous fastest party took seven days). Twight works as a technical advisor for several climbing gear manufacturers and teaches climbing and crisis nutrition to U.S. Special Forces operatives. Twight thinks for himself, and thinks well, sometimes justifiably in opposition to conventional opinions. This book is a trove of hard-earned wisdom, finely conceived and executed. An elegant pile of concise advice about gear, technique, fitness, nutrition, attitude, teamwork, and soul. If you do a lot of climbing, something in this book could save your life. Certainly this book will enhance your climbing and help tune your whole being for better efficiency and safety. Twight also sprinkles show more through the book a handful of gems: brief true climbing stories, riveting and highly educational. I have read this book five times. Its treasures are in my brain and heart every time I climb. show less
