This is a book about basketball and about being Black in America in the 1950's, 60's, 70's and on into the 21st century. A lot of basketball, which of course is not surprising given that John Thompson was a very successful basketball coach, but I am not a basketball fan so that part was lost on me. The part about growing up Black, and trying to make it all work in a white-dominated culture, that is why I read it. This is an experience I can never truly relate to, but I keep trying...and this show more story got me a few steps closer to at least understanding it better. For me, reading his memoir was well worth my time. show less
