"As usual I received this book for free. This time it was via NetGalley. Despite that kindness my candid thoughts follow below.
On the positive side, the comic has a unique premise that basically boils down to a combination of Doomsday Preppers, The Walking Dead and Lord of the Flies. Despite being a hybrid, this is one I would have never anticipated so it earns great points for originality. Graphically speaking, the artwork is gritty and realistic and more than any comic I've ever seen, it show more has a great sense of action and motion.
To the negative, the story is unique but at points somewhat improbable unless the characters are simply psychotic. Which, as the story unfolds, does seem to be increasingly possible.
In summary, a gritty adults-only story of rural America that's worth a download. Reading time is under a half an hour but it'll be a very attention-grabbing 30 minutes." show less

The denizens of Safe Haven prepared for all sorts of world ending catastrophes except the one from their own children. Subtitled “A Pre-Apocalyptic Tale,” Sheltered delivers a tense quasi-thriller of a what happens when the youth of a doomsday society bring their parents’ ideas to their logical and scary conclusion. Fearing a seemingly impending volcanic eruption that will engulf the Earth into three years of constant darkness, Lucas devices and implements a plan to wipe out two-thirds show more of the colony and thus ensuring enough supplies to weather the catastrophe. Of course, not all of the survivors agree with his position and a [b:Lord of the Flies|7624|Lord of the Flies|William Golding|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327869409s/7624.jpg|2766512] situation begins to emerge. Brisson, who has written comics for a smattering of publishers—big and small, produces an entertaining and cohesive story with many different, distinctive characters. Newcomer Christmas enhances the script with a subtle line. After a rocky start, the art dramatically improves throughout. Sadly, the generally excellent Sheltered, Volume One ends mid-scene with little resolution of the various subplots, leaving the reader unfulfilled and disappointed. show less
3.5, rounding down.
Not a bad ending for Logan. My only beef is that every other page Logan bemoans his deteriorating state and says he can't go on much longer, gets his lungs popped out or is hit by a car, then proceeds to shred whatever mutant, monster, or cultist is in his way.
What does the user agreement for Mjolnir look like? How many Asgardian lawyers does it take to define "pure of heart,"? And wouldn't any practical god demand some worship for the use of his most iconic and prized show more artifact?
The pacing and action are quite good. The art is good without being remarkable. The dialogue could be better. Wolverine had better lines as Patch back in Madripoor than he does as Old Man Logan. show less

Old Man Logan has turned around. It was definitely going downhill for a while, but the last two volumes have made steady improvement. Logan isn't moping quite so much and he is doing a lot more slicing and dicing. He is still complaining about his healing factor slowing down, but he takes quite a few big green fists to the face as well as eating a respectable number of bullets while continuing to dish out punishment.
I don't like the hillbilly hulks. They started as a pretty cool idea, but show more none of the writers seems able to decide what to do with them. They are hulks, but Logan is able to take out several of them with a claw through the head or heart. Are they crazy tough hillbilly rage machines, or are they just over muscled green thugs one step up from henchmen? show less
