Be not fooled. This is a history book. If you are looking for romance, THIS AIN'T IT! More soldiers fighting than you would ever want to read about in any book. Whatever romance exist is tucked tightly inside of "do as I say woman and I don't have time for a woman's foolishness because I'm conquering the world and dragging you along". She spends her time being wild and reckless or being hurt over his shenanigans and submissively tolerating his moodiness. The entire book exudes her position show more as his property like being given scraps from the table to a dog. show less
Ms. French has created a well-written epic novel. But with the cutting back and forth between all the different characters and locales, it is really difficult to invest in the romance between Alexander and Kiara. Their "story" only takes up about a third of the book, and the "romance" of it is very brief - where do those feelings of love come from, anyway?
Call me a hopeless romantic, I love this stuff:). Not the best trashy romance I've ever read but fun!
loved Chase's Falling Stars, but not the rest
