1952. This was a really well-written novel about a bunch of people near Cape Cod Canal who were all obsessed with striped bass fishing. It also features alternating chapters telling you where the giant bass that they all have seen, but can't catch is, and what she's doing. It's absolutely lyrically about nature and the fish, while also having a plot and a really interesting characters. There are Irish Catholic folks, Wasps from Harvard, scions of great Cape sea captains, and poor Portuguese show more fisher folk. Some find redemption and even love and some never do, but all are psychologically complex and fully developed. Loved it! show less
