This book was a fascinating study in why and how to understand the perspective of another -another so different than yourself as to almost defy understanding, or wanting to understand. As a convert to Judaism, I thought I understood Christianity and the Christian point of view regarding Judaism, but I was wrong. I was struck again and again, for instance on page 135, by the fact that from 2000 years ago, and particularly from another point of view, these writings were very moving, and filled show more a human need. Too bad these writings and those human needs were often mis-used in the ensuing years, to the great loss of many human beings.

A very enjoyable read. Eye-opening, if you've only understood "Scripture" from a Christian, specifically Protestant, point of view. Worth a re-read.
NO OF PAGES: 336 SUB CAT I: Jewish - Christian Issues SUB CAT II: New Testament Study SUB CAT III: DESCRIPTION: This book is an in-depth look at the Christian scriptures, from a Jewish perspective. On Christmas day 1925, Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, one of the twentieth century's most influential Jewish leaders, gave a lecture at Carnegie Hall in New York City titled "A Jews View of Jesu He argued that Jesus, in fact, existed, contrary to popular Jewish opinion at that time. He said, "Neither show more Christian protest nor Jewish lamentation can annul the fact that Jesus was a Jew, an Hebrew of Hebrews." Thirty years later, Rabbi Samuel Sandmel set out to explain and introduce, for the first time inscholarly detail from a Jewish perspective, the enigmatic character of the texts held sacred by Christians, the so-called New Testament that surrounds and presents the figure of Jesus. In this new edition of Samdel's classic work, you will encounter his lucid and brilliant introduction to the New Testament from a Jewish point of view, transcending the boundaries of religion in order to share in the profound perplexities and deep aspirations that we as human beings have been inspired to express.NOTES: Purchased from CBD.
