- Reuven Sivan (Silman) was born in Jerusalem on June 28, 1912 to his father the writer and educator Kaddish Yehuda Silman. Sivan graduated from the Hebrew Gymnasium, the Hebrew Teachers' School and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He served alternately as an editor of publications at the Ministry of Education and Culture, a lecturer in Hebrew at the University of Leeds in England (1954-1956), a lecturer in linguistics, editor of the language section in "Kol Israel" and a language teacher in midrash schools for teachers and kindergarten teachers.
