I am keeping this for its simple, cheap instructions for making shadowbox frames, carved candles, child's fleece mitts & scarf, lavender balls, and twig rack. However, it is not of consistently high quality: I am skeptical about the usability of a kaleidoscope that reflects with tinfoil or a pillow decorated with twine glued to cloth, and both the instructions and the final result for some items (notably the "cracked china [pique-assiette] frame") are notably deficient in quality.
Great pattern, easy wear (especially if you're not a fan of clothes in general), but needs substantial adaptation. Most important is to lengthen the front panel as the weight of the overskirt will pull the garment back over your shoulders. Alternatively, try fishing weights in the front skirt hem..
The foremost clothing pattern company has compiled a book of instructions for both hand sewing and machine assembly of clothing that covers all of the types of seams and construction that could be found in the making of garments and some home decoration items. The book is clearly illustrated with black and white line drawings and clearly written instructions. An excellent book for both the beginning seamstress and the advanced sewer who wishes to refresh her memory on unusual techniques of show more clothing construction. show less
A very thorough overview with tips that sewers of any level can use. This 1982 edition is full of vintage fun too (color photos!).
