This book is essentially a compilation of thematic vocabulary lists, with corresponding readings in the back. As such, it is ideal for the intermediate/advanced Russian teacher looking to compile vocab, or the student aiming to improve their ability to precisely discuss a certain topic.

The topics range from food to chemical elements, from religion to life by the sea. An index in the back helps the reader find the desired section, when the table of contents listings are too broad.

The readings show more do a good job of showing the vocabulary in context, and generally go light on the Soviet-jargon that makes most other books of its era sound dated.

There are longer, more thorough thematic lists out there, but this book presents a solid amount of material in a clear and useful manner.
