Transcribed by Deward Barnes from his pocket diaries into a single notebook in 1926, the narrative is sometimes augmented by later memories. Cane, as editor, adds extensive editorial notes that elaborate on some of the personalities and the historical events that Barnes comments upon. This can sometimes create a disjointed narrative. Excellent piece overall!
