This book came strongly recommended and is well organized and researched, but the scope (all English-speaking countries, not just the United States) means that its coverage of African American and Native American genealogy is just terrible. It doesn't even mention Hispanic / Latino origins.
I bought it for my library's local history room but will be hesitant to recommend it to many patrons.

I read through this book fairly quickly - as a current user of Ancestry.com, I found that I had already figured out my much of the information here on my own. There were a few tricks that were new to me, but on the whole, the book was not all that useful for me as a somewhat experienced user. For someone new to the site, particularly someone new to online research in general, I think this guide could be helpful. It didn't go much beyond basic techniques, though.
The chapters on organizing your research are an absolute lifesaver. Before reading it, I had loose papers everywhere! I also found his advice on navigating online databases super helpful. When I first started digitizing my family records, I remember browsing through https://myheritage.pissedconsumer.com/review.html to see how other people were managing their online subscriptions and building digital trees.
I'll be consulting this book off and on, but I didn't want to leave it on my "currently reading" shelf forever so I've rated it. So far it's been very helpful--a good resource.
