Weaver has an atonement bias, narrative Christus Victor, and he declares it up front. Herein lies the power of this book, because Weaver then, with admirable patience and fair-mindedness, takes up all other arguments and interpretations.

The second part of the book is most interesting. It contains a treetops exploration of atonement from the minds of black, feminist and womanish commentators. Plenty here to rattle one’s taken-for-granted approaches.
Good in that it focuses on the nonviolent aspect of the atonement.

However, it confuses the way that people in social groups are affected by interpretations of the satisfaction theory of atonement with the exegetical or hermeneutical evaluation of whether the New Testament Text advocates for that view or not. These are incredible weaknesses in this work, but it was interesting to see the perspectives of different groups.
A useful critique of the history of atonement motifs. Creatively fuses a singular Biblical vision from the Gospels and the cosmic perspective of the apocalypse.
Survey of Mennonite/Amish Atonement Theories and their influence on Mennonite testimonies of peace and nonresistance.
