Great wonderful book that is very clear and takes a feminine look at not only the runes but the Norse Gods & Goddesses as well. In many books the Goddesses take a back seat, but Freya does a wonderful job at bringng them to the forefront and giving them the respect and attention they deserve. A companion is also available: "Songs of Yggdrasil:Shamanic Chants". Highly recommended!!!

I thought this was an excellent introduction to the runes, she connects them with Eddaic mythology and cosmology. She also discusses seidhr (which is like Norse shamanism) and a female slant to Asatru.
But I have been told by heathens this book has some innacuracies. Still, I think it has its good points, just keep in mind it's mostly her personal interpretations, and modern not ancient practices.
It's an easy read for the most part. The author's train of thought tends to wander away in a few places. Certainly not a historically significant book, as it's written mostly from personal experience and perspective. However, if you're looking for a first hand perspective on the subject, this book is a decent read. It wasn't quite what I was looking for, but remains in my library.
Read this first addition years ago it was great...read it till it feel apart. One of my very first rune books, she's very open about her experience and states that a some info is her thought and feelings on this and not historical text... Historical text or her own observations great book for your collection.
