Taï-Marc Le Thanh

A picture book retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac with witty footnotes and breathtaking illustrations. Unfortunately, it hasn't been translated into English, but I think the illustrations are worth it even if you don't read French.

This take on the classic Edmond Rostand story of Cyrano de Bergerac—about a man with a humongous nose who is in love with the beautiful Roxanne, who in turn is in love with the no less beautiful but none too intelligent Christian—is adapted for children in a fun, lighthearted way that still does not shy away from the tragic ending. The twist here is that the story is set in a place reminiscent of 19th century Japan. Gorgeous, intricately detailed illustrations. I very much liked.

C'était bien écrit et il y avait de très belles illustrations. C'était un peu facile et oui, mes amis aimeraient ce livre. (Clara H.)
