This book is your classic slasher yarn. It also very much like a Richard Laymon novel crossed with Agatha Christie. My reason being is that you have an group of characters thrown together in rambling house in the show more middle of nowhere, and with difficulty leaving due to heavy snowfall. Then the killings begin and who could it be ? Nobody has left the house so it has to be one of them. When the reason behind the killings is revealed I found the reason behind it a bit silly and I would have liked to have seen a better legend rather than the one that was given. The characters are what you would expect in this sort of tale, a right motley crew. This is the second book by this author for me and overall it was quite good, but as a choice for my Halloween reads this year it wasn’t quite creepy enough but does have plenty of gore. show less

Kip McCall and the mysterious Mr Lazarus return for a third adventure, this time in a space blockbuster.
Anyone who has seen a movie from a certain space franchise will recognise both setting and characters here in not very subtle disguises. Indeed, unsubtle is one way to describe the book, but it is also great fun and bowls along at a fair pace.
Great literature it is not, but if you are looking for a fast, funny and entertaining read suitable for 8 this is one for you.

Definitely fluff. I read it in one night. It was entertaining though. I like medieval settings when they aren't taken too seriously (like talking about the misery and the plague etc. etc.). Funny book. Talking ox. Princess. Evil Uncle. Hapless hero. What more could you want?

Narrated by Maxwell Caufield. A delightfully entertaining adventure story. There are violent fight scenes (Cornelius is a particularly adept fighter) but also very humorous passages as Sebastian and Cornelius fight to save the strong-willed Princess from her conniving uncle the King. The skilled narration and acting make "Prince of Fools" ideal for family road trips but perhaps not for kids younger than 10. Sequels are guaranteed!
