Every time I read a Bissell novel,I am amazed that she is not more popular. Mary Crow is as awesome as ever in the 6th installment. I love a good "bad guys chasing good guys through the woods" rending and this has that plus a good solid mystery and finally some long needed romance. I read that Forest of Harm is being rereleased so maybe this will be Bissell's turn to shine.
5th in the Mary Crow mystery series -- it was a long wait for this excellent addition to a favorite series, but well worth it. I have missed the two main continuing characters as I would distant family, and it's good to reune. The story was easy to follow but tough to figure out, with subtle clues that were apparent only after they were no longer needed! I said "I shoulda known that!" more than once. A thoroughly enjoyable read, and I'm so glad that another book is scheduled for next year!
The Mary Crow series is another one I have followed from the beginning though it has been a few years since her last installment. Mary Crow is a Cherokee lawyer whose own mother was killed many years ago, leading her to her vocation. She is staunch defender of the innocent and a ferocious prosecutor of the guilty. In this novel she is running for District Attorney, when she becomes involved in the twenty year unsolved case of a murdered girl.

A good look at how being a suspect, even if not show more officially, haunt the lives of the four young boys involved. How involved they were is the question, especially since one of the boys. Zach was a bit older and autistic. Also shows how the media convicts even without evidence just supposition and people's expressed opinions and how small minded some people are towards those who are different. When new evidence surfaces things in town will ratchet up again, once again causing some to once again strike out and Zack, now a grown man physically if not mentally, and his mother Grace.

Good solid storyline, well rounded characters, and an interesting case.

North Carolina, the hollers of the Appalachians, their myths and folklore and fiddle music make up the story in this new novel featuring Mary Crow. Enjoy this series quite a bit, it is well written, has a wonderful leading character in Mary Crow, who is a Cherokee and a lawyer. Good combination of story-line and personal life, both which are very interesting. Love the setting and it is described so well one can picture themselves in the place and time. Good mystery and a good solid series. show more Oh and I found out something I did not know about the author. She was the ghostwriter for the children's Saddle Club series. show less
