I learned a lot reading this book.At times i found if quite depressing yet I never wanted to stop reading it. Well written in the way it describes what it is like on a white South African farm

Started very strongly but then she seemed to loose track of her various threads of secrets and none of them seemed quite so inflammatory as expected and it all just petered out in a very dissapointing manner.

Not a vampire story. A man cares for a rare heron in the bird sanctuary where he works. His daughter visits. The heron gets out. The father searches for the heron. Very melancholy tale.
