In my years of being in garden clubs, I've always thought of umbrella organizations like the Federation of Garden Clubs to resemble sorority for life - women passing out awards to each other & frequently rotating administrative offices among them selves. This book proves my thoughts to be true.
Written for the 00th anniversary of the most elite gardening organization, the Garden Club of America, it is a love song to the extremely wealthy women who both founded the organization and carry it on show more today.
This book will not be of much interest to anyone who doesn't participate in garden clubs, but for those who do it's a quick & interesting read. show less

The Imperial Season: America's Capital in the Time of the First Ambassadors, 1893-1918 by William Seale
An okay overview of the time when Washington DC began to conceive of itself as a world capital with the social pageant and building program that ensued.
The most talked about book of the first decade of the 21st Century (in my head), its content makes you ask, why not own a book of shots of the bottoms of Domes .... of America?
