It was a cool book to experience and allowed me to learn about another influential black person in America. Before I read this book I did not know who Shirley Chisholm was or what she contributed to the black community enough to have a book about her. Not only was she the first black presidential candidate but she was also the first female presidential candidate.
Shirley went to school for Education and worked in education while learning about politics. In 1965 she became a lawmaker for the show more state of New York where she helped improve people's lives. Then she ran for congress and ended up winning in 1968 and she was the first black congressperson. She served seven terms and in that time one of the things she did was make it illegal to pay people like maids less than a certain amount. She ran as a candidate for the 1972 election but sadly did not end up winning but she still changed lives. show less
