“Shen Zechuan coyly shifted closer. He leaned in and whispered into Xiao Chiye’s ear: “Even if you spare me, do you think I will spare you?”

Vengeful Seductive MMC x Manipulative Warrior Love Interest in an enemies to lovers ancient china-inspired political love story!

Enemies to lovers is my favourite romance trope, so you can bet that I absolutely devoured all the unresolved sexual tension between the two main characters.

There’s a lot of palace political machinations to keep you show more on your feet and I always felt I wasn't smart enough to read this lol. But the verbal sparring, sexual innuendo and manipulation between main characters is so thrilling! The writing style itself is also sensual and the descriptions so juicy, I found myself clutching my chest and swooning when they weren't even physically touching!

Can't wait for the next volume!

The politics are getting a little dry, the action is leaning more towards big war/battles than personal stakes. Getting a little boring to be honest.

Also, I noticed that this author mainly only uses names to refer to their characters, eg. 'Ding Tao did this or Fei Sheng did that', and never a descriptive title, eg. 'the young bodyguard did this, the assistant commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard did that'.
This book has a huge cast, and it's easy to forget who people are and what they show more do. Four books in and I'm just swimming in names - especially since I'm reading multiple Chinese web novels at the same time. This mass of faceless characters contribute to me feeling very "meh" about this series. show less

I love this couple. They are equally savage and adorable. The communication between them, whether talking about themselves or their plans, is top notch.

I definitely didn't expect the overarching plot to move as fast as it did. It makes me curious where the rest of the story will go. I'm excited to read more.
This took me so long to get through. I am not interested in the war or military movements of armies. I picked up this series because I thought this was about court intrigue, but all that went away after book 3.
