Looking alike a catalogue for a show with essays and photographs but I think it is a catalogue for his collection instead. I can find no mention of show dates. Eight essays about quilts in general and these specifically - some conventional but a couple quite interesting (one by Ulysses Grant Dietz, curator at the Newark Museum and great, great, great grandson of Ulysses S Grant).
But it is the photos that are so wonderful. One quilt more beautiful than the next, lots of inspiration.
"Nearly show more 150 eccentric, maverick and extraordinary quilts" - what we would call improvisational, at least in the result if not in the intent. Different from "modern" quilts, as I understand the term - which seems to me to be a category of quilts with more "rules" than traditional quilts. show less

This book covers quilts brought to or made in Nebraska, during the 19th or early 20th century, and presented at an exhibit at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The text is not particularly informative, but the book has large size illustrations of some wonderful quilts not previously published.
A wonderful book for browsing, and lots to read about history of quilts & America, but no patterns.

Enjoyed looking at the photos of the quilts, quilt tops, and backs. Did not read any of the essays.
