A classic text first published in 1952, with new editions in 1970 and 1983, it is suitable for a beginning orchestration class but also contains advanced material. Instruments are discussed individually, by section, and in the full orchestral context. Examples from classic and recent scores are included along with pictures of musical instruments and information about 20th century compositional techniques. Recommended for music students, composers and arrangers as a good home reference.
