Praying the Bible for Your Baby by Heather Harpham Kopp is a slim volume that promises to help frazzled mothers pray biblically for their babies (and themselves). Each short chapter/prayer is themed with a particular thought or struggle or joy associated with motherhood. I have been reading the prayers slowly over the course of several months and have been blessed by their simple sincerity. They remind me where my hope lies, and it's not in myself.

I enjoyed Kopp's occasional, gentle sense show more of humor, as well as the heartfelt devotion that infuses every prayer. Occasionally I thought verses were pulled a little out of their context to fit the theme of the prayer, but I wouldn't use this for a serious study of Scripture anyways and I don't think any of the slightly questionable usages were actual problems.

This book was given to me by a sweet friend rejoicing with us at the news of our baby. For her note in the front alone, I'll treasure it. I plan to keep it on the table next to the glider in the nursery, where I can pick it up during feedings and be reminded, oh, of so many things... that I'm not alone in the many emotions and experiences of motherhood, that every thought can be turned to a prayer, and that God knows my son and heart and circumstances so intimately — and He cares.

Great guide full of practical thought provoking ideas. For example, in each section one book is discussed by chapter. Each chapter has vocabulary words( Bastables, Blub, Buffer, Cistern, Coiner), "Grown-up Thoughts" for parents to read and discuss literary themes with children. There is a "Let's Talk About it" section with subjects to discuss such as curiosity versus caution, trust, mystery, or, "Good Ways to Tell Who's Bad" R.A.T.S.= Rebelious, Arrogant, Tricky, Selfish. Although our show more cultures are constantly changing throughout history, human nature stays the same. This guide does a great job in discussing our human nature and thinking about ways to be a better person. In between books, there is a "Dad's Reading Chair Section" which is a nice reminiscent "look back" by Brian Thomasson. You can GO GREEN with fun family ideas, such as planting your own Narnia tree or making a miniature garden, or adopting a tree or a forest. "How to Make Your Own Magical Hideaway" - a Wardrobe! Ten things to do in a Wardrobe! Take a "Shasta" Style Road Trip, or Blast into the Past, Tomb Travelers games. Write and illustrate your own Chronicles in the section "Once Upon a Time According to Me", How to act like a Dufflepud is very funny! This is a terrific guide and for the severe Narniacs, there is even an exam towards the back of the book for older students and one for wee ones! Great helps in the back and lots of info on C.S. Lewis as well. I highly recommend this book as a guide to go along with the Narnia series, well worth the family time together. show less
Having several friends and family members who have substance abuse problems, this book immediately captivated me. In three words, it can easily be described as "raw", "emotional", and "inspiring". After reading just the first chapter, you feel connected to the author as if you have known her your whole life. I found myself experiencing every emotion possible throughout the story. I laughed. I cried. I got very angry and then by the conclusion I was absolutely elated with the inspiring way show more she had turned her life around. From start to finish this story will warm your heart and help you understand alcoholism from a very raw "no holds barred" perspective. A must read for any current or past alcoholic or those with family experiencing the roller-coaster of addiction. Thank you for sharing such an inspirational story!!!

You could tell the book was written by someone who has been there. The denial and the control and finally admittance. It's always amazing to me that people can remember such details especially while under the influence. This is a very good book for anyone that is struggling with addiction. Very entertaining and funny. It is an easy read that will help.

Great story of recovery and finding God in her life. I thoroughly enjoyed her story and am proud of his journey into sobriety. Unexpectedly amazing. Very real. This book is an intense story. It is a biography. And it is almost a self-help book as well. One of the better recovery books out there. The author has the incredible gift of writing she does. Loved it.

I was given this book by NetGalley. www.netgalley.com
