A late 1980s book on prayer which attempted to offer helpful meditations on the Gospel of John. Maloney tries to tie in the use by the Eastern Church theologians to show how the soul can be involved in the process of its own transformation into the Trinity. Author is a Jesuit. Tilting more to the side of theology than prayer in terms of explanation, it is still a useful book to understand some basic concepts of the Fourth Gospel. A slight error is made when Maloney says that John uses show more Gnostic terminology "gnosis" (p. 139). Although this isn't true, he says that gnosis is equivalent to Agape (Love) within John's Gospel and Agape must come through the work of the Holy Spirit. Index or Bibliography. show less
Weaving insights from God's revelation in scripture, from church teachings and from the writings of the great Christian contemplatives, noted spiritual author George Maloney offers a masterful presentation of the virtue of trust.
George A Maloney is a Jesuit providing some short reflection and encouraging the reader to think about his point with some depth - not to be shallow. And he draws widely upon life experiences for his points.
This book, then, is an invitation to enter into the mystery of death in order to live 'inside' of the present moment and contemplate in the light of the Spirit's gifts an invitation to those who can move into mystery, to live in the 'everlasting now'."
