Wrist-damagingly huge, and apparently out of print, this is by far and away the best and most enlightening guide to vodou around – indeed one of the best guides to Haitian culture full stop. It includes contributions from oodles of star ethnologists, lavish photographs and artwork, and detailed interviews with mambos, houngans and other vodouisants. My copy was acquired second- or third-hand and came complete with highlights, underlining and marginal notes in several hands, giving a show more lived-in feel which seems entirely appropriate. Well worth tracking down, though your postman may hold it against you show less
Filled with photographs and thoughtful writings on the much maligned religion of Haiti.
Wonderful book from the Sacred Arts exhibit. Beautiful photos and well written, informative essays.
This book is a stunningly illustrated guide to the art show of the same name. It details all aspects of sacred religious art. Highly recommended for those who would like to know more about these sacred ritual creations.
